This week’s Star Students are Bradley Jarvis, Jake Wright and Dominic Allen in 6.1. As part of the Engineering Education Scheme, these students have been working with Wolverhampton based company, Goodrich Actuation Systems on the development of a linear actuator.
A product had to be designed and developed to open the doors of a jet engine for servicing. The existing solution of a hydraulic ram is heavy, costly and can be problematic. The students designed and developed a chain mechanism that pushed the door open using an electric motor. This is an innovative solution and was highly praised by the judges at the final event in Solihull. The students also won the award for Best Display and Product as voted by all the other students competing in the vent.
Congratulations to the three of them, they have worked very hard and deserve this accolade.
