Students raise £1000 for National Autistic Society
Tue, 01 Mar 2011
Students at Thomas Telford School voted to donate £1000 to the National Autistic Society following a successful Business Enterprise challenge undertaken at the School.
As part of their GCSE Business Education course, groups of Year 10 students were set the task of designing, producing and selling products of their choice at the Christmas Fayre. They worked hard to source supplies, set up production and market their goods. The youngsters were expected to fund the project themselves with the incentive that, having set aside 20% of their profit for charity, they could share the other 80% between themselves. Their wide range of products included cakes, biscuits, sweets, jewellery, calendars and candles.
Headmaster, Sir Kevin Satchwell commented: “It was a great opportunity for the students to put into practice some of the business theory they had learned and raise funds for charity at the same time. The students believe that the National Autistic Society is a very worthwhile cause as they have attended awareness raising assemblies on autism and some students have siblings affected by this condition.”
